Frequently Asked Questions
Who
attends the workshops at Fifth House Lodge? People from all walks of life and from all parts of the
world attend the workshops at Fifth House Lodge. Some relate to themselves as
'writers'; others do not. Workshops include those who feel their personal writing
lacks emotion and/or excitement, those who want to begin a story that they've
been thinking about for a long time, as well as those who are intrigued by the
idea of a workshop without quite knowing why.
Is my workshop deposit refundable?
If cancellations occur due to weather or inadequate enrollment, the deposit is
refunded in full. Otherwise, deposits are non-refundable. If you must withdraw
from a program and give notice one week in advance of that program, your deposit
may be applied to another workshop within a year.
How do I get to Fifth House Lodge?
Fifth House Lodge is located 50 minutes west of Exit 48 off of the Maine
Turnpike. The nearest airport is the Portland Jetport, one hour away. Limousine
service is available. Other area airports are in Manchester, NH and Boston, each
three hours away. Bus and train service to Portland is available from points
south. You will receive explicit directions to the lodge as part of your information packet.
Is there an application process?
Unless otherwise specified, all workshops at Fifth House Lodge focus on the writing process itself rather than on participants' past or current work. Workshops are designed to benefit all writers, regardless of experience. As such, there are no prerequisites, nor is there an application process.
