Why Write?

Here is what a few students have to say about why they write . . .

I am always writing to find the rest of me.

I write because I like showing up in all my vulnerability and not-knowing.

I write to sort out the voices, to make something right.

I write because I don't want to say it out loud.

I want to write my way through the family story and come out the other side.

I write to grow beyond the safety of silence.

I write because I have a fear of not writing.

I write to share my life which, in essence, must be lived alone.

I write to find out why I am here on earth.

I write because I don't always see my life as I am living it.

I never feel as tuned into myself as when I am writing.

I write because I want to be done.
